Let's be Batty!

The second grade classes are learning that bats live in diverse habitats where their unique structures allow them to meet their basic needs. One day, Ms. Lanty's class became megabats and "flew" around the classroom feeding on nectar in flowers they created. The students stuck their noses into the flowers and noticed they picked up different colored pollen as they fed. The different colored pollen made it easy to see how cross-pollination occurs. It was determined that the bat's fur helps collect and distribute the pollen while it feeds and that this helps plants.
